YURAKUCHO ART SIGHT PROJECT Vol.4 #2
TANIGUCHI AKIHIKO | HYPER GARDENING

“YURAKUCHO ART SIGHT PROJECT” is a project aimed at creating new relationships between the city and art using temporary enclosures and facades as stages. By installing works produced through artist research in the city, it aims to bring diverse perspectives and thoughts to the city and create communication between people in the city and artworks.

In the fourth installment of the project, which crossed from Yurakucho to Marunouchi using the Marunouchi Park Building as a stage, three artists appeared in succession. In the second installment, media artist Akihiko Taniguchi created and exhibited new works based on his research of the biotopes on the rooftops of the New Yurakucho Building and the Shin-Kokusai Building.

Artist Statement: “This work is a virtual photographic work created by placing 3D plant data in the Unity, a generic game engine, and photographing it flat with a telephoto lens. With the spread of XR technology in recent years and the increase in communication in virtual spaces after the COVID-19 pandemic, the reality of our world has become multifaceted. For example, in video games and metaverses, virtual landscapes created by 3D plant data constitute a part of our memory through the experiences within them. While these virtual plants are made to resemble real plants, they have evolved into their own existence and transformed from reality due to different requirements, acquiring unique forms and textures. This work attempts to reflect on the relationship between such new realities and the existence of virtual plants.”
