GU KENRYOU
YURAKUCHO 202004
From the rooftops of the Yurakucho Denki Building, Marunouchi Nijubashi Building, Tokyo Building TOKIA, and the Yurakucho Ekimae Building, Gu captured panoramic views of the Yurakucho area.
He then created the final piece using a technique he calls “digital weaving,” in which multiple photographs are merged into a single image.
In his process, Gu uses image-editing software to repeat tens of thousands of actions—deleting or preserving content pixel by pixel—and layers the material to create images that resemble textiles.
In this particular work, a horizontal line formed by buildings constructed in Yurakucho during the 1960s unexpectedly emerges as a 10-meter-wide visual space.
This line appears as a symbolic “space” filled with the potential for the future of the city.
