The invention of writing marked the beginning of human civilization.
Cities can be seen as symbols of that civilization.
They are filled with information—signs, labels, directions—displayed on signs, walls, and the ground.
These guide people as they move through the city.
What would cities and buildings be like if writing, and even people, disappeared from the world?
How would we understand the world if all that remained were the man-made materials that make up cities—like metal, glass, and marble?
