KATO KOTA
MARUNOUCHI HEAT SUPPLY
I projected photographs onto a monitor that had been scratched with tools, then rephotographed the result.
Depending on how the screen was damaged, patterns appeared—almost like graffiti.
I layered my personal impressions of this place onto this technique.
Thirty meters underground, I encountered massive pipes and control machines running beneath the city.
They gave off heat and energy, almost like living creatures.
The powerful atmosphere I felt with all five senses was intense—and even a little frightening.
At the same time, it made the buildings in the Otemachi–Marunouchi–Yurakucho area feel alive.
The moment I returned above ground, it felt as if I had just woken up from a dream.
